SGS sees value in Snack Food Associations of Canada and America and Pet Food Association of Canada memberships.

SGS is delighted to announce that we have recently been accepted as members in the following organizations: Canadian Snack Food Association (CSFA), American Snack Food Association and the Pet Food Association of Canada (PFAC).

Founded in 1957, The Canadian Snack Food Association (CSFA) is a voluntary, non-profit organization whose members are involved in the manufacturing and distribution of snack foods. Members include manufacturers and suppliers to the snack food industry. The Pet Food Association of Canada (PFAC) is an industry association comprised of pet food manufacturers and companies that supply materials or services to the pet food manufacturing industry.

According to the website statista.com, the US is the current leader in the snack food industry with Canada ranked seventh in the worldwide snack market, bringing in almost 6.5 billion U.S. dollars. As far as pet food is concerned, it is a market that between 2006 and 2016 has grown in retail sales by over $500 million dollars to an approximate value of $1.9 billion in Canada.

“From a consumer standpoint, both the snack food and pet food industries are part and parcel of life enhancements for people, which makes the testing and verification of the products so important. With a history of agricultural testing that dates back over 130 years, SGS is able to test, monitor and validate products and ingredients for its customers,” said Jonathan Brooks, Agriculture and Food, Branch Manager – Trade Services, SGS Saskatoon.

Already a global leader in testing and certification, finding ways to partner with manufacturers in both of these important areas is becoming more of a priority, especially with the ability to test a wide variety of crops, food and feed products that are important to snack and pet food manufacturers. The Genomics lab in Saskatoon run by SGS Canada is the first lab in Canada approved by the worldwide Non-GMO Project which places a butterfly logo on food products which is especially important for snack food manufacturers.
