WEEE Advisory Services

The WEEE Directive (Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment) places responsibility for the management of WEEE on manufacturers, importers and retailers. SGS can assist your company in designing and implementing your compliance strategy.

Adopted by the European Union (EU) in 2003 the first WEEE Directive, 2002/96/EC, aimed to minimize the environmental impact of the disposal of electrical and electronic equipment by making manufacturers, resellers and importers responsible for its collection, reuse, recycling and recovery. It was revised and the new WEEE Directive, 2012/19/EU, became effective on February 14, 2014.

Similar regulations apply in some non-EU countries.

Our experts provide an individual service to adapt your processes to each country’s requirements. We can assist you to analyze applicable requirements and implement a pragmatic WEEE compliance solution covering, as applicable, information to users, labeling, registration, reporting, fulfilling take-back obligations and the appointment of Authorized Representatives.

With its global network of offices and experts, SGS offers independent advice and will adapt legal, technical and practical advice so that you can set up an efficient WEEE strategy.

Additionally, the EU RoHS directive (2011/65/EU) restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. It replaces the first RoHS directive (2002/95/EC) which was repealed in 2013. For information on SGS RoHS Services, visit our dedicated webpage.
