Radio Equipment Directive (RED)

To manufacture or sell radio equipment for use in Europe it must comply with RED 2014/53/EU. With a few exceptions it applies to all equipment that uses the radio frequency spectrum.

The Radio Equipment Directive (RED) harmonizes the market and improves the process of bringing products to market. Removing national standards, the directive now requires manufacturers to demonstrate that a product meets the directive’s Essential Requirements. At SGS we have the expertise and testing facilities to help you demonstrate your product’s compliance and carry the appropriate CE mark.

Common examples of RED standards:

  • Product safety: EN 62368-1, EN 60950-1
  • EMC: EN 301 489-x, EN 61000-3-2, EN 61000-3-3
  • Radio: EN 300 220/330/440 (Short Range Devices), EN 300 328 (2.4GHz ISM Band), EN 301 511 (GSM Mobile Station), EN 301 908 (UTRA & E-UTRA & 5G), EN 301 893 (5GHz RLAN), EN 300 330 (13.56 MHz SRD)

We offer the broadest range of wireless communications testing and compliance services from a global network of laboratories to give you the edge in a competitive marketplace.
