SGS’s special tests for seeds assess quality and other criteria to help you operate with better information and make your business more competitive.

Our network of laboratories delivers the resources and expertise of a global player at the local level, conducting a variety of tests on different seed types. Our seed health testing services include seed treatment application verification (STAV) plus POM testing (protein, oil and moisture). Here is the complete list:

Pericarp Test

Our fast green examination is a pericarp damage test that investigates the seed’s coat (or pericarp) for defects. The results help to determine the overall quality of the seed and its value to you as a commodity.

Seed Health Testing

We can help you identify which plant diseases are affecting your crops, allowing you to make informed decisions about your domestic sales and exports.

Accredited by the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) – as well as by the National Seed Health System (NSHS) in the United States of America – we are able to perform many different seed health tests for various pathogens.

STAV

This service ensures your seed applications are completed properly and with the highest possible quality. By testing a sample after treating, we can both determine whether it has the proper treatment rate applied and ensure the accuracy of future seed tests.

You can also take advantage of our seed services by using a verified sample to help you calibrate your own seed treating equipment. This can prevent the wasted time and cost of over-treatment.

POM Testing

To determine grain quality, we use a grain analyzer for moisture testing, oil testing and protein testing on corn, wheat and whole soybeans.

Shake-out Service

We perform this test on bulk field harvest samples within 48 hours of receipt. If there are quality issues associated with your bulk corn or specific lots, you can request a pre-scalp color sort on the bulk sample. After the shake-out, we are also able to package samples for small grow-out plots – saving you valuable time and reducing the opportunity for errors.

Contact SGS now to find out how our special tests can provide the information you need to determine seed quality and make your business more competitive.
